Article about Just Crepes Success!

1)  Handwritten note left on a table

Just Crepes was recommended to myself and 2 friends while shopping because Susan whom has a cottage at Windermere was not sure what was open on a Monday after labour day.  I was delighted as soon as I opened the door and was met by our waitress.  After much deliberation of just what to choose Sue and Ann went for the seafood (which I did notice immediately) but I decided on Egg Benedict.  My was a "oh my goodness" the best Crepes and the best eggs B I have had in a long long time and in a long long distance.  Being from small town Bruce County near where Sue recently returned from the better part we have ample opportunity to experience good and fine food in various surroundings but I just can't wait to return next summer to have another crepe or maybe I will drive the 3 1/2 hours this winter because they are that dam good.

Hi David:
Thanks for getting back to me with info. When I wrote the letter I said that if people wanted to volunteer they could contact the ReStore or me, since I did not have your phone number handy. You're lucky! Anyway, I also wanted to tell you that your rave about Just Crepes was right on. We went to church at Port Carling this morning and then over to Just Crepes. We both had a wonderful meal. Before we were done Fern declared that she wanted to come back!

Hello Janine,
I cannot believe that that restaurant is yours ! We were up a  few weeks ago, and said that we will go to the restaurant the next time we are up in Port Carling ! My friend lives in Bracebridge, and she raved about your new restaurant ! Can't wait to try it.
I will call you when I am in Port Carling.
My daughter worked at Clevelands House a few summers ago, had a great time !
She did the Party thing in Bala every week.
You must love Muskoka in the summer.
I wish you all the luck with the restaurant. I know it will do very well. Everyone loves crepes !
I will contact you in the next few weeks.
Have a great long weekend.
See you soon,

Hello Janine & Dave,
I have been meaning to drop you an email to tell you how much we enjoyed your restaurant when we were in a couple of weeks ago. It was our first visit there since your opening and we were thoroughly impressed.  The food, the staff and the atmosphere were perfect.
Way to go and all the best for a successful venture...we'll be sure to be in again very soon.

Sincerely,
Darlene & Bill Hay

"Hello Everyone!
I don't want you to think that I've become a restaurant critic, but I do want to share some news about a new restaurant that I think you should explore.

It's called "Just Crepes', and it's in Port Carling - a pleasant drive at this time of year. As you go into Port Carling and are going down the hill towards Steamboat Bay (the grey stores on the right), "Taps Bar and Grill", the Liquor Store, etc., if you look on the opposite side of the road you'll see a very bright yellow building. That's it!

Karen and I went out there for lunch the other day. What a treat! It was only their second day being open, so it was great fun to sit and watch everyone running around trying to iron the kinks out. "Now, let me see. Where do these 2 lunches go?" The place was packed - the patio as well, even though it was a chilly day. Those who had eaten their meals all had smiles on their faces. It was scrumptious! But you want to be hungry when you get there. The meals are generous and tasty. Beer and wine are not available yet, but that is coming down the road.

The decor is awesome - peaceful yet interesting. The washrooms set a new standard in Muskoka. Make sure you check them out.

The restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch. In talking with the owner I asked when they were going to start to stay open for dinner. The only response I had was "we may just have to". Get there early for your planned meal, but if there's a lineup, ask the hostess how long it will be. You don't want to miss it after a drive to the Port.

The menu is varied. I've got to get back to try the dessert crepes. They look "out of this world" on the menu, and some that I saw being taken to tables didn't disappoint my eyes or my fantasies.
We had lunch. Karen had the BLT crepe, and I had the Muskokan - sausage, bacon, ham and eggs with a side of garlic potatoes and a slice of tomato. Not on the Canada Food Plan but I wasn't there for that! I eyed the Seafood Crepe, but thought I'd save that for another time. Lobster, scallops and shrimp with a hollandaise sauce. Wow!

It almost sounds like I'm a little biased. I am. The owner, Janine, is our daughter-in-law, married to our oldest son Dave. If you read the fantastic tribute that Janine prepared to those who helped her on the last page of her menus, you will see the high regard she has for David. You will also note that Muskoka Building Corporation is prominently mentioned. Dave and Steve Cleary own the company that did the work on this property.

Our other son Todd did the artwork and layout for the menus (he's a computer graphic artist) and his wife Bren helped in naming the dishes and deciding what should go into them.

The art and writings on the wall are done by Olga Dafoe who now lives with her husband Kel on Partridge Lane in Bracebridge. Olga came into our lives as a mid-teen when she lived on a farm not far from our farm in Erin, Ont. She was hanging around with Kelly. My fond memories of Kel are coming home from a winter vacation in Florida one year to find that our teenage son had a party while we were away. During the party, Kel tried to see how easy it was to put his foot through our drywall walls! Kel lived in a house backing on to our farm, and he and Dave have been friends for years. Kel operates an excavating business and does lots of work for Dave.

So all in all it was a neat day for us, but I'm also sure that you will enjoy a visit almost as much as I did. And then I think you'll also understand why I signed their guestbook "We're as proud as anyone good be of the two of you, and wish you much luck"!"
